A French Christmas tradition of over 200 years old. Wrapped in traditional gold and colored paper, these chocolate papillotes add a romantic French flair to the holiday season. "Papillotes" were named after a specialty sweet confectioner - Monsieur Papillot, who crafted chocolates and sweets in his shop in Lyon, France during the 18th century.
His apprentice would wrap chocolates in plain paper with secret love messages on the inside so he could sneak them out of the kitchen to woo the lady living across the street. The pair eventually got married and message-wrapped papillotes have been a tradition ever since.
